Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom’s Reveal Hints At New Gameplay Possibilities
The Titular Princess Will Use New Abilities
As was seen in the Nintendo Direct presentation, Zelda will receive help from a fairy called Tri and, with it, use the staff known as the Tri-Rod. This special staff will allow the Princess to create Echoes, which are copies of other objects. This will be key during her adventure, as this playableZelda will use these Echoes to traverse Hyrule in search of Linkand solve many of the puzzles that impede her progress through the region. An example of the mechanic’s usage can be seen in theZelda: Echoes of Wisdomtrailer.
There, the character recreates Echoes of tables to gain enough height to climb a wall. Players will be encouraged to use their creativity when exploiting the Echoes they gather throughout the campaign. Players can avoid a gust of wind by either skipping over it with a box as a platform, for instance, or even blocking the gust entirely with a shrub. In addition to these mundane objects that should help with traversal and even combat,Zelda will be able to create Echoes of monstersinEchoes of Wisdom.

In the trailer, Zelda is seen defeating an opponent by throwing an Echo rock at them.
When summoned, theseEcho monsters will fight alongside the Princess and can help her defeat other threats. Nintendo promises there will be many Echoes to encounter in the game, which could significantly impact how players tackle different challenges in the upcoming game, as it seems that puzzles have different types of solutions, for example.

Zelda: TOTK Is Still Missing One Important Feature (& It’s Never Getting It)
Tears of the Kingdom is a great sequel to Breath of the Wild, but it’ll always be missing this one important feature from its predecessor.
This is not the first time that Zelda is playable within the franchise (she is playable inHyrule Warriors, for instance), but her time in the limelight is minimal. In fact, the absence of aplayable Zelda inTears of the Kingdomwas a missed opportunity, especially when considering where her story arc goes and how important it is to Link’s adventure. Even if it is a spin-off,The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdomis a huge step forward for the Princess and should be able to show just how endearing the character is apart from her silent companion.
