Summary

Microsoft has focused on theXbox Game Passservice in 2024, as proven by its recent showcase, and now, a new game has been announced for a July release. However, unlike other recent announcements, the game isn’t from a AAA developer but an indie title from the ID@Xbox team.

The game is calledMagical Delicacy, it’s available day one on Game Pass, and per its official description on theID@XboxYouTube page, will star a young girl named Flora who has entered a new town.

This place, Grat, is meant to be a spot where she can grow her magical abilities. However, the game doesn’t grow them traditionally. Instead, Flora goes around the town and attempts to cook delicious dishes for the townspeople there using various ingredients. Through the special cooking system, she can make each dish specifically for each customerand hopefully get to cook for them again later on.

Magical Delicacy Brings A Unique Experience To Xbox Game Pass

No Need To Fight When You Can Cook

Despite the game looking like an old-school title mixed with cooking,Magical Delicacydescribes itself as aMetroidvania-lite, just with cooking elements. To that end,as Flora does better with her cooking and deliveries, she’ll get more access to Grat via platforming. She’ll even get access to areas more quickly through shortcuts she’ll discover, helping her explore the town to get the ingredients she needs to make each dish for her customers. The more areas she reaches, the more places she can check out and the more people she can cook for.

Magical Delicacywill release day one on Xbox Game Pass on July 16, and will be playable on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Microsoft hasn’t been focusing too much on its indie games lately; instead, it is pushing forward the clear signs that its Game Pass will house numerousAAA titles in the coming months and 2025. Thus, it’s refreshing to see that an indie game is getting the day-one treatment alongside its AAA brethren.

In recent weeks, Xbox Game Pass has announced numerous titles that were coming to its service or are about to drop on it. For example, on June 13,The Callisto Protocolwill arrive on Game Pass. Furthermore, the beloved RPG seriesOctopath Travelerrecently dropped both of its entriesonXbox Game Pass, further bolstering the lineup the service has. It’s been stated that the pass has been stalling in its user growth in the last fiscal year, so more announcements of coming additions are likely to help increase its value.
