Summary

In the wake of its hugely popular 6-season run,Peaky Blindersis officially returning for a movie. Perhaps even more exciting to me is Tom Hardy’s interest in reprising his TV series role for the film. While addressing hisPeaky Blindersmovie return,Tom Hardyrevealed that he wants to return as Alfie Solomons, saying he’s “100%” behind the idea, though he’s just “punting” at this point. So far, Oscar-winning actor Cillian Murphy’s Tommy Shelby is the only character confirmed to be returning for the film — even thoughPeaky Blindersseason 6 suggested many characters' returns.

Created by Steven Knight, the period-piece crime drama follows Murphy’s cunning Tommy Shelby, an ambitious crime bosswho oversees an urban gang called Peaky Blinders. Set in the immediate aftermath of World War I, the series sees its titular gang tangling with authorities, expanding their criminal organization, entering the political arena, and navigating civil unrest. I was surprised whenPeaky Blindersseason 6 endingconcluded on a mixed note: Although the Shelby family is fractured, there’s some promise in Tommy’s new path, which makes aPeaky Blindersmovieall the more exciting — and very much needed.

Tom Hardy’s Peaky Blinders Character Is A Fan-Favorite

One of thecharacters who must return forPeaky Blinders' movie, Aflie Solomons is a fan-favorite personality. The owner of an illegal distillery and leader of a Jewish gang based in Camden Town, Alfie first appeared inPeaky Blindersseason 2. After causing his fair share of strife, Alfie reveals to Tommy that he has life-threatening cancer. Wanting to die on his own terms, Alfie fires at Tommy, but is shot in the face. To me,the season 5 reveal that Alfie survived the incident was one ofPeaky Blinders' more shocking moments, and it led to one of the show’s best team-ups.

Unfortunately, Alfie’s role in season 6 is much more minor, likely because of Tom Hardy’s other filming commitments. While we see him in the Cotton Club and again in the series' final moments, he doesn’t make much of an impression. I find that it’s always a treat to see Alfie appear on-screen with the rest of thePeaky Blinderscrew, so seeing him in the movie would be great. In addition to setting up a potential role for Hardy’s beloved character in the spinoff, thePeaky Blindersmovie can satisfyingly conclude Alfie’s core storyafter several years.

The Peaky Blinders Movie May Be The Closest We Get To One Dream Cillian Murphy Role

Cillian Murphy’s stellar career has been filled with memorable performances, but his Peaky Blinders film may be the closest he gets to one dream role.

I’m Not Convinced Tom Hardy’s Peaky Blinders Movie Role Would Be More Than A Cameo

Alfie’s Return Could Perfectly Set Up His Role In The Boston Spinoff

If anything, I imagine Tom Hardy’s Alfie will have more of a cameo appearance in thePeaky Blindersmovie — even if fans would love to see more of the character. In general,Tom Hardy needs to return to thePeaky Blindersfranchise.Even if his movie appearance is uncertain, his role in the upcomingPeaky BlindersBoston spinoffseems pretty crucialgiven Alfie’s control over Boston’s criminal trade. I’d love to see thePeaky Blindersmovie use Hardy’s return strategically, setting up the beloved character’s future arc while providing a little fan service in the process.
