TriStar originally hadHereon its schedule for November 27, a date that would have put it up against big family-oriented Thanksgiving releasesMoana 2andWicked, as well as the second week ofGladiator II. That may have been too much competition for the new Hanks/Zemeckis collaboration, in the eyes of the studio, so they have elected to move its wide release up two weeks to the middle of November.

The new release date forHereputs it up against a pair of movies that, on paper, should represent much weaker competition than the big Thanksgiving movies it would have been pitted against. The first of those releases,Heretic, is an A24 horror film from directors Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, starring Hugh Grant. The second, the Amazon MGM Studios movieRed One, teams Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans in a Christmas-themed action-comedy.
