This game studio is deliberately releasing mystery game on same day as GTA 6
Publisher Devolver Digital plans to intentionally release an unknown game on the same day asGrand Theft Auto 6.
Following confirmation from Rockstar that its hugely-anticipated sequel had beendelayed until August 12, 2025, Devolver posted on X/Twitter, “You can’t escape us. August 23, 2025 it is then.”
The May 2 notice was in response to Devolver’s post back in March, when it first floated the idea of going head-to-head with GTA 6. “Gonna release a game the exact same day and time as GTA 6,” it said.

What game it intends to deploy on the same day as GTA 6, or if it’s even serious about doing so, remains to be seen. Considering the company’s well-documented history of headline-grabbing publicity stunts, however, it wouldn’t be at all surprising if it were serious.
The publisher regularly held mock satirical press conferences, dubbed “Big Fancy Press Conferences,” at the annual Electronics Entertainment Expo before its discontinuation in 2023. Likewise, Devolver created Fork Parker, a fictional character with their ownX profile, presented as an inept and inappropriate chief financial officer.
Known primarily for championing indie games, Devolver’s most notable published titles include Hotline Miami, Enter the Gungeon, and Shadow Warrior.
Lining up a game to coincide with Rockstar’s behemoth and billing the move as friendly competition is exactly the kind of stunt that’s in Devolver’s wheelhouse.
