There has never been a better time to buy afolding phone, in the US or abroad.
This year has seen several new entrants to this list, all targeting the ultra-thin form factor that combines thinness with flagship specs. However, several of these aren’t available to buy in the US, where the options are far more limited. Regardless, the best book-style folding phone right now is Samsung’s newGalaxy Z Fold 7.

Then there’s the other type of folding phones: we’ve seen several new flip phones launch, as Samsung and Motorola launched multiple versions of their flip phones to target different price points. While the book-style folding phone market has several non-US options, the flip phone market is primarily centered in the US. Yet, the competition is heating up there. Still, the best flip phone right now is theMotorola Razr Ultra 2025.
Between those available in the US and a special collection of international options, here are the best 8 folding phones you can buy in 2025.

Best Folding Phone Overall
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7
Why you should buy this:The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is the standard bearer for the folding phone market.
Who’s it for:Anyone who wants the best all-around foldable phone experience, including an excellent design that’s indistinguishable from a regular smartphone.

Why we picked theSamsung Galaxy Z Fold 7:
Few companies have achieved the marked difference that Samsung did from the Galaxy Z Fold 6 to the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The latter is ultra-thin, features larger displays, and is as thin as the Galaxy S25 Ultra, despite having the same 200MP primary camera.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 has a larger 6.5-inch Cover display and an 8-inch main display, both of which match the key competition. New carbon fiber and titanium plates beneath the main display ensure that the crease is reduced and virtually imperceptible.

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 also features top-notch performance with the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor, which features a higher clock speed and more optimization than the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor used by other devices in this list. It offers the best CPU, GPU, and on-device AI performance, especially when paired with either 12GB or 16GB of RAM, depending on the storage option you choose.
The 4,400 mAh battery lasts a full day, but not much more, and 25W charging takes approximately 75 minutes to charge the Galaxy Z Fold 7 fully. The 200MP main camera is outstanding, but the 12MP ultrawide and 10MP telephoto performance could be better. Despite these flaws, overall, Samsung hit a home run with the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

Best camera on a folding phone
Honor Magic V5
Why you should buy this:The Honor Magic V5 is the world’s thinnest folding phone and the standard bearer in many ways.
Who’s it for:Anyone who wants the best specs on a folding phone, even though the Magic V5 is considerably harder to buy than the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
Why we picked the Honor Magic V5:
The Honor Magic V5 is a great phone. We’re still finalizing our full review, but it turns out that the world’s thinnest folding phone is also one of the best.
The Magic V5 is available in three colors, but only the white option is the world’s thinnest at 4.1mm thick when unfolded. The other options are between 4.2mm and 4.4mm thick, while all colors of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 measure 4.2mm thick when unfolded.
The 50MP main camera on the Honor Magic V5 isn’t as powerful as the 200MP main camera on the Galaxy Z Fold 7, but the 50MP ultrawide and 64MP telephoto cameras far surpass Samsung’s best. This continues with the battery, featuring a 5,820 mAh capacity, 66W wired charging, and 50W wireless charging, all of which set benchmarks for a folding phone.
The Honor Magic V5 proves that folding phones can be uncompromising, but it’s not yet available globally, and it won’t be officially sold in the US. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 offers better carrier and trade-in deals, which will further reduce the outlay; however, the Honor Magic V5 is a special folding phone.
best folding phone for durability
Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold
Why you should buy this:Google is a relative newcomer to the foldable market, but its third-generation foldable is a strong contender in the US.
Who’s it for:Anyone who wants the most durable folding phone experience, albeit at the cost of thickness and weight.
Why we picked the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold:
Google’s third-generation folding phone is still only available to pre-order ahead of its October 9 release date, but we’ve had hands-on experience with it, and it has left us impressed.
Despite the competition aiming to be thinner and lighter, Google took the opposite approach as the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is 0.3mm thicker and one gram heavier than last year’s Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Yet, this comes with a crucial benefit: the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is the first folding phone to receive an IP68 rating, making it the first to offer the same level of dust and water resistance as the best non-folding phones.
The Pixel 10 Pro Fold comes equipped with the new Tensor G5 processor, which is built on the same TSMC 3nm process as the key competition. It features the same triple camera setup as last year’s model, comprising a 48MP main camera, a 10.5MP ultrawide lens, and a 10.8MP telephoto lens.
The 5,015 mAh battery is the largest on a Google folding phone, and 30W wired charging can charge the phone to 50% in just 30 minutes. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is also the first folding phone to feature built-in magnets and compatibility with MagSafe accessories, eliminating the need for an additional case.
Best Affordable Folding Phone
OnePlus Open
Why you should buy this:OnePlus’s first folding phone is available at a great price and remains an exceptional option.
Who’s it for:Anyone who wants a unique phone experience. It’s several years old, but the OnePlus Open has aged exceptionally well and is a great, affordable folding phone in the US.
Why we picked theOnePlus Open:
The OnePlus Open is a remarkable device that has managed to capture the attention of many people. It is the company’s first foldable device and it has been built with meticulous attention to detail. The use of titanium and other materials has made it lightweight and compact when folded, making it a great choice for those who are looking for a more portable and user-friendly device.
One of the standout features of the OnePlus Open is its high-quality cover and inner display. The cover display is about the size of a typical smartphone, making it very easy to use. The anti-reflective layer on the inner display is a great addition, making it more comfortable to use than other foldable devices like the Google Pixel Fold, which has a highly reflective inner display. The overall design of the OnePlus Open is quite attractive too, and it has been well-received by those who value aesthetics and design.
In terms of performance, the OnePlus Open is a top-notch device that is capable of handling even the most demanding tasks with ease — thanks to its Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. It comes equipped with the latest hardware and software, and the user interface is intuitive and easy to navigate. The battery life is also impressive, lasting for hours on a single charge. And when you need to recharge, the 67W wired charging is among the fastest you’ll find on a folding phone today, even if it’s not close to the 80W charging from theOnePlus 12.
Overall, the OnePlus Open is a great choice for those who are looking for a high-quality, well-built, and user-friendly foldable device. Its lightweight and compact design, combined with its high-quality display and impressive performance, make it a great investment for anyone who values quality and innovation.
The complete folding phone
OPPO Find N5
Why you should buy this:Although it’s only available in China and Singapore, the Find N5 offers the most comprehensive folding phone experience.
Who’s it for:Anyone who wants the folding phone with the fewest compromises.
Why we picked the Oppo Find N5:
When Oppo set out to build the Find N5, it was likely meant to be the OnePlus Open 2. Had this been the case, it would likely be at the top of this list, as it would have been available in many of the same markets as the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Instead, a limited release sees the Oppo Find N5 released only in Singapore and China, which is disappointing, as this is the most complete folding phone.
The Find N5 boasts an excellent array of features, but unlike its chief competition, it appears to have removed very little to achieve the world’s thinnest folding phone record earlier this year. Yes, Samsung matched Oppo at 4.2mm thick when unfolded and 8.9mm thick when folded, and Honor beat it when unfolded, but the Find N5 does it all.
Even though Samsung removed S-Pen support from the Galaxy Z Fold 7, the Find N5 supports the Oppo Pen on both displays. The 6.62-inch Cover Display and 8.12-inch main display are the largest of any folding phone, and Open Canvas from the OnePlus Open makes the Oppo Find N5 a multitasking powerhouse. The 50MP main camera is excellent, as is the 50MP telephoto lens; however, the 8MP ultrawide lens feels like an afterthought.
The 5,600 mAh battery is an endurance champion, 80W wired charging is the fastest on a folding phone, and 50W wireless charging matches the best. It’s powered by the seven-core version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite — which means performance can suffer at times — but this folding phone does it all. The black edition also features a particularly nice faux-leather finish.
Best Flip Phones
Of course, you may not want a book-style folding phone; instead, you may want to make your smartphone smaller. The flip phone concept delivers just this, and here are the best flip phones you’re able to buy in 2025.
The Motorola Razr Ultra 2025 is the best flip phone you can buy right now, owing to its excellent battery, fantastic cameras, and dynamic cover screen experience. The Honor Magic V Flip 2 deserves special mention for its cameras, although it’s not available outside China.
The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is Samsung’s best model and features the largest front screen on a flip phone, but it offers little improvement over last year’s Galaxy Z Flip 6.
best flip phone overall
Motorola Razr Ultra 2025
Why you should buy this:The Razr Ultra 2025 is the gold standard for flip phones.
Who’s it for:Anyone who wants the best flip phone with the fewest compromises.
Why we picked theMotorola Razr Ultra 2025:
The Motorola Razr Ultra 2025 is the first Ultra-branded flip phone, and it was worth the wait. Motorola has improved every aspect of the phone, from performance and cameras to battery life and charging. The result is the best flip phone, bar none.
The Razr Ultra features the same great 4-inch Cover Display, complete with its innovative small-phone interface. The main display has increased to 7 inches, while the crease has been reduced, and the selfie camera now features a 50MP sensor. This matches the 50MP main camera and 50MP ultra-wide camera, for a trifecta of 50MP cameras that mostly capture excellent photos.
It wouldn’t be an Ultra without the best hardware, and the Razr Ultra 2025 delivers here, with a full eight-core Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, 16GB of RAM, and either 512GB or 1TB of storage. The 4,700 mAh battery offers true multi-day battery life, while 68W charging charges it to full, and 30W wireless charging is equally impressive for a flip phone.
Add in fun colors such as Rio Red and Cabaret Pink, as well as alcantara leather for the first time on a phone, and reclaimed wood for the first time in a decade, and you have the best flip phone you may buy.
best flip phone camera
Honor Magic V Flip 2
Why you should buy this:Although it’s currently only available in China, the Honor Magic V Flip 2 boasts the best camera and is slated for a global release.
Who’s it for:Anyone who wants the best flip phone camera.
Why we picked theHonor Magic V Flip 2:
The Honor Magic V Flip 2 sees the flip phone form factor gain the same 200MP primary sensor capabilities as the best smartphone cameras. Paired with the 50MP ultrawide sensor, we have the best camera on a flip phone, especially since Honor is also utilizing AI for a hybrid zoom that’s surprisingly capable, even at up to 10x.
The Honor Magic V Flip is the first flip phone that feels uncompromising in every area. It has a 5,500 mAh battery that lasts for more than a day, 80W wired charging that can charge it to full in just 45 minutes, and 50W wireless charging for fast and convenient charging wherever you are.
The innovative 4-inch Cover Display splits into a left column that encompasses the cameras and a right column that’s wider and displays apps in vertical format. It’s creative, as no other flip phone takes this approach. While it can sometimes be challenging to read text, it’s a refreshing take that is surprisingly useful as a compact phone.
best flip phone for updates
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7
Why you should buy this:You want a curated experience that’ll last for seven years.
Who’s it for:Anyone who wants the biggest front screen and a flip phone that’ll be supported for years to come.
Why we picked the Galaxy Z Flip 7:
If you change your phone infrequently and care about how long your phone will be supported, you should consider the Galaxy Z Flip 7. It launches with Android 16 and the excellent One UI 8 out of the box, and will be supported for seven years of software updates until Android 23. This is much better than the competition, and Samsung is trustworthy in delivering on this claim.
Beyond this, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 features modest upgrades but not the overhaul that we were hoping for. It’s a functionally excellent flip phone, but while Motorola went all-out with the Razr Ultra, Samsung has opted to stick with its current approach. That said, the Blue Shadow Galaxy Z Flip 7 color is one of the nicest on a flip phone.
The 4.1-inch Cover Screen is outstanding, but while it’s now easier to run any app on the Cover Screen with the updated Good Lock module, Motorola’s approach to the cover screen is far more elegant. Samsung delivers another excellent flip phone, but the competition has stepped it up a notch. That said, the best Galaxy Z Flip 7 deals could make all the difference, as there are excellent savings to be had.
