There’s one reason Timothy Simons’ The Handmaid’s Tale character isn’t a threat
The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6 Episode 4introduced us to Timothy Simons’ character for the first time. And though he’s a High Commander, there’s a simple reason he doesn’t pose any real threat – there’s another newcomer we should be more worried about.
In the sixth and final chapter of theHulu series, Serena and June are walking down very different paths after being separated in Episode 1.

While Serena is heading upNew Bethlehem, the “liberalized” area improving international relations with Gilead, June is returning to Mayday to bring down her captors once and for all.
Serena is working alongsideJoseph Lawrence, who gets sworn in as a High Commander in the latest instalment. And it’s during this ceremony that he meets Simons’ new character.

Don’t worry about Timothy Simons’ The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6 character
The Veep andNobody Wants Thisactor plays a fellow High Commander and a nasty piece of work. He convinces Lawrence into heading to Jezebels to “celebrate,” where he proceeds to degrade and dehumanize Janine.
Yes, he’s a threat to the women unfortunate enough to be in his immediate surroundings due to his current position of power and his cruelty towards them. But in the long run, he’s unlikely to pose a serious challenge to Mayday’s plans.

Even in the short scene in which he’s introduced, he comes off as arrogant, short-sighted, and completely wrapped up in his own ego, and as we’ve learned from horror movies past and present, these are the easiest characters to kill.
Plus, thanks to his horrific ideals, he’s made plenty of enemies, not only with the women of Jezebels but also with fellow High Commanders like Lawrence.

And then there’s the issue of timing. Introducing him inThe Handmaid’s Tale Season 6seems to suggest that he’s not built for longevity.

Our final clue is the fact that June, Moira, and Luke learn about Mayday’s plan to kill the most extreme Commanders: by infiltrating and attacking Jezebels – a place Simons’ character clearly frequents.
It appears his days are numbered, not that he’d know it.
Do worry about High Commander Wharton
A character we should be more concerned about is Rose’s father, High Commander Wharton, another new addition to the Season 6 cast.
On first appearances, he seems diplomatic, a family man…niceeven. But we know he’s not.
Already, he’smaking things hard for Nick, watching over him in New Bethlehem with a close eye. As an original Son of Jacob, it’s clear he still holds tightly to those same fundamentalist ideals, showing apprehension about the new reforms.
Yet, he’s also expressed support for Serena’s independence, saying aboutFred Waterford, “A better man would’ve encouraged your influence.”
Where Simons’ character is loud and reckless, Wharton is the opposite: quiet, smart, and far more calculated. If his alliance with Serena continues to grow, they’ll undoubtedly make a concerning duo against the Mayday rebellion.
