The Instigators' first trailer has been released, teasing the new Matt Damon and Casey Affleck crime thriller. Doug Liman’s Crime Thriller Has An Impressive Cast
Damon has now adopted the iconic Boston accent for two key films, andThe Instigatorscertainly seems to continue the trend. Damon previously played a Bostonian inGood Will HuntingandThe Departed, and his Boston accent is definitely making a return in Liman’s upcoming film. Damon is playing more of an everyman this time around, however, with some early trailer exposition revealing that he’s in a tough spot financially.
Damon and Casey Affleck both appeared as part of thecast ofOppenheimer, but they previously worked together on theOcean’s Elevenfranchise,Good Will Hunting, andInterstellar.
The trailer also reveals that Damon and Affleck will have some strong supporting cast members inThe Instigators. In addition to Chau, who is best known for theacclaimedThe Whale,The Menu, andAsteroid City, the crime thriller features performances by Ron Perlman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Paul Walter Hauser, Ving Rhames, Alfred Molina, and Jack Harlow. Rhames will seemingly be playing a cop attempting to take Damon and Affleck down, while Perlman will be playing the mayor.
Tonally, the movie seems to have little in common withThe Bourne Identity. While the action scenes, particularly a car chase, feature some real intensity,the somewhat clueless characters give the story some clear comedy. It remains to be seen howThe Instigatorswill fare with audiences, but it certainly has the ingredients to be a fun reunion for Damon and Liman.
