The Acolyteepisode 5’s armor that can block and shut off lightsabers is cortosis, an ore found inStar Wars.Cortosis is a mineral that can block the effects of lightsabers but is also incredibly brittle to offset its seemingly overpowered nature. Although cortosis has existed inStar Warscanon before, the mineral’s main appearances came in the old Expanded Universe, now dubbedStar WarsLegends. With cortosis first being introduced in Legends, cortosis has now been brought toStar Warscanon for the first time in live-action.

With cortosis being added toStar Warscanon, it becomes clear how terrifying a weapon it truly is.The Acolyteepisode 5 proved this, with the show’s Sith villain using cortosis to his advantage. Thanks to the anti-lightsaber properties of his armor, the Sith was able to easily cut down several Jedi inThe Acolyteepisode 5, including main characters like Jecki and Yord.

This brings to light how dangerous cortosis can be. ThroughoutStar Warscanon, it has only been established that other lightsabers or metals with specific properties - like Beskar - can withstand Jedi weapons. However, cortosis offers not only another weapon to fight against the Jedi but also a source of armored protection from lightsabers. WhetherThe Acolyte’s future episodes delve deeper into cortosis weaponry remains to be seen, but, for now at least, it is a terrifying new tactic in the arsenal of the Sith that could aid him in his quest to destroy the Jedi.
