“The new show Shogun looks to be an absolute masterpiece,” one fanpostedon Reddit. “After watching the first two episodes I can honestly say I haven’t felt this kind of excitement for a TV show in a long time. It is captivating on the levels of some of the greatest cinema I’ve ever watched. My only complaint is that I wish I had waited for the whole season to come out at once, as waiting another week for the next episode is torturous.”

A secondagreed: “First two eps were excellent. Fantastic adaptation of the book so far. I was engaged the entire time,” with a thirdadding: “The way they’ve adapted such a massive source is fantastic. It’s not scene on scene of the book, but they’ve taken the important beats and weaved that into a compelling TV show. This is how huge books should be adapted.”
However, other Shogun fansdisagreed, explaining: “The word ‘masterpiece’ lost all its meaning. I watched the first episode and I’m looking forward to watching the rest but calling every second good series a ‘masterpiece’, even more so after just two episodes (!) is just lunacy.”
