Warning: SPOILERS ahead for Dark Matter episode 7!
Summary
Dark Mattercreator Blake Crouch has opened up about the ending of episode 7, explaining the upcoming fallout from the final moment in the upcoming episodes. Thecritically praisedDark Matterhas had its wildest moment yet, with episode 7 revealing two different versions of Jason have returned to the same world. This is evidenced in the final gun shop scene, which shows two versions of him coming in with the exact same clothes and backpack on, including both having a makeshift wedding ring in place of the one Jason2 stole.
Speaking withScreen Rant, Crouch, who createdDark Matterand wrote the 2016 novel the show is based on, explained episode 7’s twist regarding another Jason showing up in his home world. The author explainedhow the idea for multiple Jasons returning home came about, and teased what to expect from the concept in the upcoming episodes. Check out what Crouch had to say below:

Never anything else than the gun shop. Because when I was writing the book, and I got to that place, I originally thought it was just going to be Jason1 versus Jason2 — that was the plan the whole time. I finally got to that moment, when Jason gets home and, and then it just sort of felt a little anticlimactic. It felt like what was expected and it kind of derailed me for about a month on the book. And I was like, I don’t know what to do here. This is not the way I wanted to go. And I went back to my journal and on the third day of journaling about Dark Matter, I had written down, “What if Jason gets back and hundreds of other Jason’s have also gotten back?” And then I had literally written, “No, that’s too stupid. That’ll never work.” And then I continued on with the book. So at that moment, it felt dumb. But when I got to that moment in writing the book, I was like, hell yeah. And that was always what that moment was gonna be.
The s*** gets just crazy. These were the episodes we were always most excited to get to and to film. The idea of fulfilling the premise of the multi-Jason’s… To me, there’s two big promises we have to make good on the show. One is alternate realities and making sure they look great in the box and in the corridor and all that. But the second piece is the idea that just when you think this guy is home, all these other versions of him are also home, and how does he deal with that? So I knew we were going to have the bar scene [in episode 8]. But I wanted to even expand it out more and make it even a little bit crazier than it was in the book. And we had this really good director, Alex Sakharov, who kicked off The Witcher — he’s a pilot director, but he came and did the last two episodes of Dark Matter for us. I still remember seeing the Director’s Cut of episode eight with all the Jason’s and it was one of the coolest viewing experiences I have ever had. Director’s cuts — they can be great [or] not so great. This one was already at like a fantastic level. So it was like getting to watch it without having to go and do a bunch of things and tweak it. It was already amazing. I think people can get ready for a lot of mayhem in the last two episodes.

What Multiple Returning Jasons Mean For Dark Matter Episode 8
Crouch’s statement confirms thatnot only have two Jasons appeared in the same world looking for a way home, but so have multiple othersthat want to go back to their families. The creator confirmed episode 8 is going to be focusing on this concept, with the bar in particular being an important location for what happens as the story continues. Given how wild it will be to see a multitude of Jasons appear in the same world, it seems the last two episodes of the show are going to be its most conceptually interesting yet.
With many Jasons returning to the same world in hopes of getting their family back, it remains to be seen how the issue of so many different versions of himself will be dealt with. Since there have been somechanges from theDark Matterbookin the show, it’s unclear how much the explanation will align with the novel. It’s possible they are all seeking their own Jason2’s, having converged in the same world out of happenstance. It’s also possible the original’s time in the Box helped create alternate versions of himself, all seeking the same home.

Apple TV+’s New Sci-Fi Show Is The Perfect Follow-Up To Christopher Nolan’s Inception
Christopher Nolan may never direct a sequel to Inception, but an Apple TV+ show seems like the perfect spiritual follow-up for the mind-bending film.
In addition to Jason himself having to deal with the dilemma of multiple versions of himself, othercharacters inDark Mattercould also become wrapped up in the chaos. This includes his family, with Daniela and Charlie possibly finding out what happened and trying to come up with a solution. However, with so many different versions of himself now in the same world, anything is possible as they all attempt to do everything they can to get their old life back.
