The Rick and Morty franchise experienced some blows after co-creatorJustin Roiland was charged with domestic assaultand subsequently fired from the show. While the charges were ultimately dropped, Adult Swim decidedly cut ties with Roiland and ultimatelyreplaced him on the show.

Fans were nervous to see who would take over the titular roles of Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith, butSeason 7 has now come and gonewithout too much backlash.
But now the franchise is expanding, with an anime offering fans new lore while they wait for the TV series to continue in Season 8. Let’s take a look at all the details that have been revealed about Rick and Morty: The Anime so far.

Rick and Morty: The Anime – Is there a release date?
The series was first announced on April 12, and while no official release date has been confirmed, we know for certain it’s setto premiere in 2024onAdult Swimand HBO Max.
Exactly when in 2024, however, is anyone’s guess for now. We will update this space when new information regarding the release date becomes available.

Rick and Morty: The Anime – What do we know of the plot?
The anime series will follow the adventures of the Smith household as a standalone series in which “Rick relaxes in a pseudo-world between multiverses, Summer helps Space Beth fight the evil Galactic Federation, and Morty falls in love with a mysterious girl who happens to be an atemporal being.”
Using similar themes and humor as its parent series, the anime was ordered following five shorts directed by Takashi Sano. The shorts were a hit with fans, and it can be assumed the series will follow suit in terms of what to expect.

Adult Swim shared a first look at the anime on July 26, 2025. This gave fans the first glimpse at the new art style and just how the adaptation feels.
Another teaser then followed at the tail end of 2023, giving fans a full minute-long clip from the show as Summer helps Rick navigate through hundreds of alternate Ricks.

On August 18, 2025, Adult Swim released a preview that showcased the Smiths being attacked in their own home – seemingly by the Yakuza – with Jerry coming to the rescue.
