Rey Star Wars movie gets disappointing update as 2 new movies “move forward”
Daisy Ridley’sStar Warsmovie focused on Rey just got another setback, with Shawn Levy’s Starfighter and another film moving forward at Lucasfilm.
At the end of The Rise of Skywalker, Rey returned to Tatooine with her gold lightsaber. After seeing Luke and Leia’s Force ghosts, she declared herself to be a Skywalker.

It was a polarizing ending that teed up an uncertain future for the character. During 2023’s Star Wars Celebration, it was announced that Ridley would reprise her role in a film directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, following Rey as she rebuilds the Jedi Order.
However, its development appears to have been laborious. Damon Lindelof worked on it… and then he left. Steven Knight was hired… and then he left. Now, it’s “on hold.”

Star Wars puts Rey movie “on hold”
According to a new report frominsider Daniel Richtman, “the Rey movie is on hold once again, as both the Shawn Levy and James Mangold Star Wars films are moving forward first.”
Levy is directingStar Wars: Starfighter, a new standalone entry in the franchise set after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. It’ll star Ryan Gosling, and it’s believed to follow a teenager and his uncle on a mission in the galaxy far, far away.

Mangold’s project is arguably more interesting:Dawn of the Jedi. It’s exactly what that title suggests: a movie chronicling the origins of the Force and the first Jedi in theStar Wars timeline.
However, don’t worry too much about the Rey movie. “The project is not canceled – just temporarily on hold,” Richtman added, so itshouldstill go ahead in the future.

George Nolfi (The Bourne Ultimatum) is currently attached to write the script for the Rey movie. “I have not read the latest script, but I know what’s happening, and I know the story, and I think what feels really good is that George is a phenomenal writer,” Ridley toldComic Bookearlier this year.
