The upcomingOnly Murders in the Buildingseason 4will see the trio leave New York for the first time as a movie is adapted from their hit podcast.
On the officialOnly Murders HuluInstagram account, a behind-the-scenes image was shared revealing who will be playing the main characters in the in-universe movie. See the post below:

The photo, which sees the trio pairing off with their counterparts in matching outfits, reveals thatEugene Levy will play Charles, Zach Galifianakis will play Oliver, and Eva Longoria will play Mabel. It is currently unclear if the stars are playing themselves or if they will be playing fictional actors, though it seems likely that they will be suspects in the season’s central murder either way.
This Only Murders In The Building Season 4 Casting Is Strange But Perfect
There Is A Huge Age Gap Between Two Of The Actors And Their Characters
It had been previously announced that Longoria, Levy, and Galifianakis would be joining theOnly Murders in the Buildingcast, but before this, it hadn’t been revealed exactly who they would be playing. It would have been difficult to predict this turn of events, because two of the actors portraying the main trio arevastly different ages from the characters themselves, with age differences of a decade and a half or more. Below, see a comparison of the ages (at the time of writing) of the actors playing each character:
Steve Martin (78)
Eugene Levy (77)
Of the three, only Levy is anywhere close to the age of the character he is playing. However, the fact that a younger actor will be playing Olivermakes sense for the show’s seemingly inevitable Hollywood satire, as the industry has a tendency to cast younger actors where possible. Additionally, being played by a younger star would likely appeal to Oliver’s sense of vanity. However, the fact that Eva Longoria is 18 years older than her character is somewhat unusual. Presumably, the show will acknowledge these age differences and could potentially even make them key plot points.
Bringing the strangeness of Hollywood casting front and center makes sense, as theOnly Murders in the Buildingseason 3 endingrevealed that the murder would be Hollywood-centric in some way, as it involved the killing of Charles’ stunt double Sazz (Jane Lynch), who may have intercepted a bullet meant for Charles himself. While it remains to be seen exactly how the in-universe movie and its cast will figure into the new season, it adds an intriguing new wrinkle to the show as it continues into its fourth season.

Only Murders in the Buildingseason 4 premieres on Hulu on August 27.
