Summary

Sarah Michelle Gellarhas had many fantastic roles throughout her career, but one of her best shows still needs an ending after 12 years. After playing Buffy Summers onBuffy the Vampire Slayerin all seven seasons, Gellar sought something unlike the supernatural drama. Her follow-up vehicle was considerably different from anything else on TV at that point, making it a hot property before it landed on a network. The idea, coupled with luring an in-demand actress back to the small screen, helped get it a lot of attention when it premiered in 2011.

It’s always interesting when an actor takes their career in a new direction, and the series presented the opportunity for Gellar to do many things she hadn’t done with prior roles. Gellar’s career post-Buffy the Vampire Slayerhas been varied, but this particular show will always be remembered for its unique set-up. Sadly, there are many questions about how it ended despite wrapping up in 2012.

Sarah Michelle Gellar as Siobhan and Bridget on Ringer

Ringer Left Too Many Mysteries Unsolved

Ringer Should Have Gotten A Second Season

Ringerlasted just one season. Consequently, the finale lacked closure, leaving the series' most burning questions unresolved.Ringerseason 1, episode 22 played out like a season finale, with Siobhan almost being killed by Bodoway. The villain had been searching for her and broke into her apartment in a last-ditch effort to take her down. Thinking Andrew was being attacked, Bridget gunned down Bodoway, but she didn’t catch a glimpse of her sister. Siobhan had faked her death earlier in the season, but Bridget believed she was dead.

The final scenes upped the ante when Bridget learned of Siobhan’s fate. Even worse, she realized Bodoway only targeted her because Siobhan wanted him to think it was her. Thanks to such a chilling reveal,Ringerseason 2 would have introduced a more cunning Bridget. Throughout the season, Bridget proved far less wicked than her sister. With her intent on taking down Siobhan, a second season promised to switch things up. Years after its cancelation, Gellar revealed thatRingerwas supposed to be very different.

What Sarah Michelle Gellar Has Said About The Ringer’s Ending

Nowadays, miniseries are popular and tend to attract big stars because of their short commitment. Back in 2011, they weren’t as popular. Gellar has revealed thatRingerwas initially pitched with a limited run. Sadly, CBS pushed back because execs didn’t see the value in making a show without threads for another season. The news means thatRingercould have had a pre-determined conclusion, which would have made it far more rewatchable.

TV shows without endings are challenging to market, which explains whyRingerwas effectively forgotten after being canceled by The CW. At the time, all signs pointed to the network sealing its fate, but Gellar has since confirmed it was her call. The actor shared in the aforementioned interview that she didn’t want to commit to another installment because she was pregnant with her second child. Given the continued success of limited series, seeing howRingerfared if it premiered now would be fun.
