Summary
A newLooney Tunesmovie is in the works, and it is exactly what I need after the heartbreaking cancellation ofCoyote vs. Acme. As a huge fan of theLooney Tunesfranchise,Coyote vs. Acmewas one of my most looked-forward-to films, with the images, news of positive reception, and story making me incredibly excited for the film. However,Coyote vs. Acmewill no longer be released, with the news being heartbreaking to me. Despite this, anotherLooney Tunesmovie is gearing up to release, and it is filling theLooney Tunes-shaped hole in my heart.
Coyote vs. Acmewas an officially announced moviethat centered on the character of Wile E. Coyote, who has always been one of my favorite members of theLooney Tunescast. The film would have followed Wile E. Coyote as he finally sued Acme for their defective products, with the company’s failed weapons being a running joke in the Roadrunner and Wile E. Coyote cartoons. The film would have been a hybrid of live-action and animation, and while test screenings led to the film getting incredibly positive reviews, it was sadly shelved by Warner Bros. Discovery for tax reasons.

It Is Looney Tunes First Fully Animated Theatrically-Released Film
While the shelving ofCoyote vs. Acmeis still incredibly sad and unfair to the artists behind the film, anotherLooney Tunesmovie is set to bring the beloved characters back to theaters. The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movieis a fully animated feature-lengthLooney Tunesfilm, with its theatrical release making it a first of its kind. The movie is a spinoff of Max’sLooney Tunes Cartoonsseries of shorts, which I’ve already been a big fan of, so I’m excited to see the team tackle the first feature-length animatedLooney Tunesmovie.
The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Moviewill focus on three popularLooney Tunescharacters, with it starring Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, and Petunia Pig. The film centers on the trio as they discover secret plans for an alien invasion of Earth, with them having to save the planet in the wake of the aliens mind-controlling many of the Earth’s inhabitants. Some clips and images from the film have already been released, with the movie already proving to be worthy of being the first feature-length fully animatedLooney Tunesmovie.

The Cancelation Is Still Controversial
Thecancelation ofCoyote vs. Acmehas caused a lot of controversy for Warner Bros. Discovery and theLooney Tunesfranchise, with it being one of the biggest movie news stories of 2024. DespiteCoyote vs. Acmebeing a finished film, Warner Bros. Discovery under the leadership of David Zaslav decided to shelve the film for tax purposes, something that has been frequently occurring under the company’s new leadership. This means thatCoyote vs. Acmewill most likely never be seen, unless another company buys the rights to release the film from Warner Bros. Discovery.
The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Moviemay still be a gamble for Warner Bros. Discovery, but it has the potential to prove that theLooney Tunesfranchise is still profitable. If the movie does well, then it could prove that shelvingCoyote vs. Acmewas a mistake, one that could have cost the company to lose out on potential money. The upcoming movie seems to be full of classicLooney Tuneshumor and character, with it being able to show thatLooney Tunesdoesn’t have to sell out to find an audience.
