Jeffrey Dean Morgan had the perfect reason to play Conquest in Invincible Season 3

Invincible Season 3introduced Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Conquest, one of the scariest villains in the show – and there’s a great reason he wanted to join the cast.

The Walking Dead Season 7 opened with one of the most infamous episodes in modern TV history: ‘The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be.’

After Season 6’s cliffhanger ending, it properly introduced audiences to the barbed bat-swinging tyranny of Negan (Morgan), the show’s biggest and nastiest antagonist. His debut also came with a huge death: Glenn (Steven Yeun), murdered by Negan and reduced to twitching mush in front of Rick, Maggie, and co.

That episode aired in October 2016. More than eight years later, Robert Kirkman gave us the rematch of the century withInvincible vs Conquest.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan reveals why he joined Invincible cast as Conquest

“I was just thrilled to get to be a part of it and give Steven his chance at redemption,” he said.

Although, while he was keen to please The Walking Dead fans, he didn’t want Conquest to be Negan 2.0. “I was trying to be aware of just voice inflection,” he said, insisting that he wanted to stay “as far away” as possible from his Walking Dead villain.

“It’s so easy for me to get into Negan mode after this many years,” Morgan added.

Morgan was always at the top of Kirkman’s list for Conquest. “I didn’t hesitate just because there is the meta of it all like, ‘Oh, it’s the rematch between Glenn and Negan, and now Glenn gets to win,'” he toldVariety.

“Something about it seemed fun and interesting. You worry about those kind of things taking people out of the show, but once you’re in it and you’re paying attention, it’s not necessarily something that occurs to you.
