“We’re writing XI right now, and Kevin Greutert is returning to direct. That’s been since December, and that’s one where it’s got something new to say, and it’s angry.”

Why Saw XI Is Taking So Long

Previous installments have come out just one year apart

Saw X, which was released in late 2023, saw a return to form for the long-running franchise. Even though the last few installments in the franchise broke even, the critical reception has been largely negative. The change came with the release ofSaw X, which quickly became the best reviewed movie in the franchise and was also a box office hit. The success ofSaw Xprompted a quick turnaround time forSaw XI, which was initially slated for release on July 29, 2025.

Now, with arelease date of September 26th, 2025 scheduled, it looks like theSaw XIteam are taking extra time in putting the movie together, especially after the writers strike of 2023 has pushed back the development timeline. It is possiblethat Tobin Bell, the 81-year-old actor who plays the iconic Jigsaw, will be returning to reprise his rolealongside other names like Costas Mandylor and Shawnee Smith, all of whom also appeared inSaw X.

Saw 11’s Release Delay Proves The Franchise Learned The Right Lessons After $111 Million Hit

After the critical and commercial success of 2023’s Saw X, Lionsgate is taking its time releasing another entry in the long-running horror franchise.

In regard to the story forSaw XI, nothing has been confirmed, but it seems likely that the forthcoming installment continues whereSaw Xleft off. TheSawfranchise generally has a convoluted timeline and the tenth film went back in time to bring Bell back as Jigsaw. The horror villain died of cancer inSaw 3but has appeared in some form or another in many of the sequels.
