Summary
One of the greatest video game adaptations ever made, the Emmy-winningArcaneaces every category. Not only does it feature breathtaking animation, compelling characters, and an engrossing story, but its action sequences and voice acting are also top-notch. In fact,Arcanedoes what a lot of live-action video game adaptations fail to: it pulls in casual viewers— folks who will never become players — and it makes them care aboutLeague of Legends' theories, lore, and characters. To me, that’s pretty astounding, and it makes it difficult to let go of the two-season series.
Arcane Season 2’s Ending Is Disappointing After 3 Years Of Waiting
It Took 3 Years For Arcane To Follow Up Its Emmy-Winning First Season
WhenArcaneseason 1 was released, it set a record as Netflix’s then-highest-rated series within the first week of its premiere date. The praise and accolades only continued from there. Set in a steampunk-inspired world,Arcanechronicles the growing unrest that’s brewing between the wealthy city of Piltover and its oppressed underbelly, Zaun. The series' protagonists, Vi (Hawkeye’s Hailee Steinfeld), and her sister, Jinx (Fallout’s Ella Purnell), find themselves at the center of the storm. InArcaneseason 1’s cliffhanger ending, a distraught Jinx finally accepts that she and Vi have diverged, despite their shared past.
Three years later,Arcaneseason 2 is finally hitting Netflix.
The first outing ends as Jinx, now fully accepting of her identity and convictions, takes aim at the Piltover council. Needless to say,Arcaneviewers like myself have been eagerly awaiting the fallout of the first season’s climactic conclusion since the 9-episode show launched in 2021. Three years later,Arcaneseason 2 is finally hitting Netflix. However, the at-times excruciating wait makes the fact thatthe sophomore outing will beArcane’s lasta bit of a letdown. Still,if the second season is as remarkable asArcane’s initial installment, it will be hard to feel disappointedat all.
Arcane Season 2’s 8 Biggest Theories Ahead Of The League Of Legends Show’s Return
Season 2 of Arcane has a wealth of possibilities, from League of Legends champions being introduced to new story developments branching off season 1.
It Makes Sense For Arcane To End With Season 2
Vi & Jinx’s Story Shouldn’t Be Dragged Out
Although the news ofArcaneseason 2being the show’s last outing is disappointing, I fully acknowledge that it’s better to end Vi and Jinx’s story on a high note. There’s nothing worse than a series that overstays its welcome or drags a two-season arc into something much longer. Speaking toVariety,Arcaneco-creator Christian Linke reiterated theArcaneteam’s commitment to the show’s quality. “From the very beginning… we had a very specific ending in mind,” Linke shared. So, if the show’s carefully plotted story should end with the second season,Arcanemust conclude with the sisters' heartbreaking war.
Future League Of Legends Shows Make Arcane’s Ending Less Disappointing
Arcane Was Just The Beginning Of League Of Legends' Foray Into Animated Series
As I mentioned earlier,Arcaneis just the beginning. The show’s remarkable international popularity, paired with its rave reviews, suggest that the Netflix series will successfully launch a much largerLeague of Legendsanimated universe.Co-creator Linke has been open aboutArcanebeing just one of Runeterra’s many stories, as well as the first of many future partnerships with Fortiche, the animation studio responsible for bringing the show’s breathtaking world to life. The promise of futureLeague of Legendsuniverse shows certainly makesArcane’s conclusion sting a little less — though it will be hard to top.
