How To Defeat Lahmu (1st Boss Fight)
Recognize Certain Elemental Weaknesses
Lahmuis first encounteredin Jozoji Temple, right after the first battle in the area, which also includes some Lamia and Anzu enemies in early waves. Block
If a demon can Block a certain type of elemental damage, it means itdoes not take damage at all from that damage type, unlike resistance which merely reduces the total damage taken from an attack of a specific type.
Null
The best way to beat Lahmu during the first encounter is tonot have team members Weak to Dark attacksanduse attacks that inflict Force and Light damage. Lahmu can instantly destroy demons weak to Dark with Mudo, the only attack the boss uses during this initial confrontation. This means you canbring demons who Block Darkto nullify any of Lahmu’s attacks against your team.
Unlike theTrumpeter boss inSMT V: Vengeance, Lahmu does not require a specific demon to beat in the first boss fight, only ones who don’t have a vulnerability to Dark. Try not to bring along anyone who uses Fire damage either since Lahmu resists that type of damage. You can still kill the boss with this elemental damage, but it will take much longer and be far riskier than using other options.
How To Defeat Lahmu (2nd Boss Fight)
Understand All Three Forms Of The Boss
During a normal playthrough of the game, you will encounter Lahmu a second time during the main story, this time withthree distinct phasesyou must overcome. This additional encountertakes place at Shinagawa Station, so be prepared with an appropriate team for this fight. As a general strategy,do not bring demons weak to Darkagain, as Lahmu still tends to exploit that weakness with its attacks.

Phase One
The first phase against Lahmu requires you todestroy all six tentaclesof the boss while it attacks your party. During this section of the battle,Lahmu has the same resistances and weaknesses as the first encounter, functioning almost exactly like how it did before. At this point, the enemy is a far cry fromfacing a god in this JRPG, so you shouldn’t have too many problems dealing with Lahmu in the exact way you did earlier.
In this Phase, Lahmu uses the same skills and attacks from the first encounter. Since this boss fight is longer than the last, ensure to bring resources that will help your demons recover MP, which they will have to use more to use damaging abilities on Lahmu.
Phase Two
After each tentacle has been destroyed, Lahmu’s first form will appear with a variety of new attacks andone additional resistance to Ice damage. Continue touse Force and Light attacksto exploit Lahmu’s limited weaknesses as it continues to attack. The stronger Lahmu is much easier to beat if you have a demon who Blocks or Resist the damage types dealt by the boss within this portion of the fight inSMT V: Vengeance.
Medium Electric attack to one foe.
Mudo
Weak Dark attack to one foe. Chance to instakill when striking weakness.
Charge
Greatly increases the damage of the next physical attack performed by all allies.
Babylon Curse
Weak Almighty attack to one foe. Inflicts Mud.
Lahmu will almost always start this phase of the fight with Babylon Curse to inflict the Mud condition on someone in your team. This ailment removes one Press Turn before the user can act on their turn, making it a powerful debuff to one of your allies. To make matters worse, youcannot heal the Mud condition or rewrite it with another ailment, so you will likely have to deal with this affliction as the fight continues.
Phase 3
Along with new attacks, Lahmu has a completely new spread of elemental weaknesses and resistances that you have to be ready to adapt to. Although the boss has stronger defenses against basic strikes, there are more opportunities to inflict critical debuffs on Lahmu during this phase. Make sureat least one of your demons can inflict a negative ailmenton Lahmu so you can beat them once and for all.
Chance of inflicting Confuse on all foes.
Mudoon
Heavy Dark attack to one foe. Chance of instakill when striking weakness.
Purple Smoke
Weak 3 Physical attacks to one foe. Greater effect when target is Confused.
Silt of Ruin
Unique Skill- Medium Almight attack to all foes. Lowers target’s Accuracy/Evasion by 1 Rank for three turns.
As you can see, you need touse attacks with Fire damageto target Lahmu’s one weakness in this phase. Although the boss still resists many status ailments, try to at least impose some sort of debuff other than Confuse, which the creature still cannot succumb to. With enough effort and plenty of trial and error, you should be able to overcome this challenge with enough persistence.
How To Defeat Lahmu (Canon of Vengeance Route)
Follow The Same Stragies From The Second Encounter
Those that follow the newCanon of Vengeanceroute seen with the undeniably intriguing changes made toSMT V: Vengeancewill not face the three-phase Lahmu in a boss fight. Instead, you will face a slightly weaker version of the boss along this new path. This version of Lehmuis the same version from the second encounter, only with two phases in place of threewith slightly lower health.
As you’re able to see in the above video by YouTube creatorFaz, the boss fight against Lahmu in this route has youtake out every tentacleof the boss before you attack the main body. This works in the same way as the second encounter mentioned, with Lahmu having the same weaknesses and resistances. Simplyuse the same strategy as you would for the second encounterthroughout the first two phases.
Keep an eye out for the Mud condition, don’t bring demons who are weak to Dark damage, and exploit the vulnerabilities of Lahmu to win this battle in record time. Although this path may look different over time, the plan used to beat Lahmu inShin Megami Tensei V: Vengeanceis relatively the same as in the base game.
