Over the years, DC has featured many Western characters, such as Bat Lash, the Tornado Twins and Jonah Hex.Jonah Hex’s legacy in theDC Universe stretches into the 21st century in his descendant Jinny. Now, in a preview forOutsiders#8,Jinny shows her true potential–and hints at a return for Jonah.
Outsiders#8 is written by Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly and drawn by Robert Carey. The preview opens with someone opening fire on Batwoman. It is revealed to be Jinny Hex, who fired the shots as a warning. Batwoman tells Jinny she is not scared, and Jinny calmly replies: “guns ain’t for scaring Batwoman. They’re for firing.” Batwoman asks Jinny if she knows what is going on in the abandoned town of Zero.

Jinny assures her she has the problem under control and then tells Batwoman to turn around, as someone is behind her.

The preview ends there, leaving fans waiting to see who Jinny Hex’s accomplice is, but it manages to establish her as a legitimate badass. Co-created by Brian Michael Bendis, Jinny is the great-great-granddaughter of Jonah Hex. One of DC’s most notorious Western-themed characters, Jonah Hex, was a bounty hunter operating in the late 19th century. Jinny’s father had been an associate of Jonah’s and was made immortal thanks to the Godseye. In the 21st century, he will marry Jinny’s mother, who was a descendant of Jonah, in a bid to retrieve the Godseye.
What this means for Jinny’s future has yet to be revealed, but her skills with a gun have made her worthy of the name Hex.

Jinny Hex shows a great deal of confidence in the preview. Something is off in the town of Zero, and Jinny is fairly certain she can handle it on her own. Whatever is behind it is definitely supernatural in nature, but Jinny is not fazed. Furthermore, she shows no fear towards Batwoman either. The preview makes it clear a third person is with them,most likely her ancestor Jonah Hex, opening up speculation on what role he will play. Regardless,DCis done wasting Jinny Hex, who could one day surpass her ancestor as the publisher’s premiere Western hero.
