Fictional boy band dethrones BTS as highest-charting K-Pop group in the US
Fictional K-Pop band the Saja Boys, from Netflix’s hit animated film K-Pop Demon Hunters, has become the highest-charting K-Pop band in US Spotify history — even surpassing BTS.
K-Pop Demon Huntersreleased onNetflixon June 07, 2025, and it’s already become a smash hit among viewers, reaching theglobal top 10on all countries tracked by the platform.
The movie features two feuding K-Pop bands, a girl group named ‘Hunterix’ and a boy band called the ‘Saja Boys.’
In the film, the Saja Boys become instant superstars thanks to their catchy music and hunky bods — and it looks like their star power is translating to the real world, too.

As of June 29, 2025, the Saja Boys are now the tophighest-chartingK-Pop band in USSpotifyhistory. This means that the fictional group is at the top of Spotify’s rankings via a combination of music sales and streaming activity on the site.
The Saja Boys are so popular that they’ve even outranked fellow K-Pop groupBTS, one of the most popular and successful Korean bands in history, thanks to their song ‘Your Idol.’
The tune is one of two original songs the Saja Boys perform in K-Pop Demon Hunters (the other being ‘Soda Pop’). The dark, EDM-style track was written by EJAE (the voice of lead character Rumi), Mark Sonnenblick, and Vince.
EJAE has worked with a slew of top-tier K-Pop groups including TWICE and aespa, opening up about her process for the film in aninterview with Forbesearlier in July.
“[It was] a lot,” EJAE told the outlet. “There were so many versions of [all the songs]. We had different songs that they scrapped or they’ll hold. I think for one of the songs, I’m not even kidding. I did [around] 57 demos.”

According to EJAE, the sound for ‘Your Idol’ was inspired by EXO’s songs MAMA and Obsession.
“It’s about the obsession of fans [because the Saja Boys] want them to be obsessed [to control them],” she said. “That sounds like what an Idol is. I was raised Christian and remembered it’s a sin to idolize something. So, it was like a twist of ‘I’ll be your Idol.’ It was kinda creepy.
“I reversed [the audio] and harmonized that [on the demo]. I was like, ‘Whoa, this sounds like a cathedral.’ [It was] weird. So, I did that and added harmonies to make it sound even creepier and have a kind of old Latin vibe.”
In fact, K-Pop Demon Hunters is so popular that co-director Maggie Kang admitted there’s already potentialplans in place for a sequel.
