Rick is hard at work in the garage, but Morty just won’t stop yapping, so he opens up a portal and brings in a weird, gothy-looking girl named Lil Wigsley. Rick explains that Lil Wigsley will tell Morty stories if he’ll shut up and listen - but these aren’t just any old stories. They’re horrifically banal, but it soon becomes clear that Rick and Sister Lil Wigsley’s intent to distract Morty is more terrifying than the tepid tales they’ve been spinning!
Covers for the issue come courtesy of Marc Ellerby, Jarrett Williams and Aaron Conley. Ellerby’s comic sees Morty reading a parody version of the Necronomicon, bound in Rick’s still-sentient skin. Meanwhile, Williams' variant cover sees Morty and Summer fleeing through a cornfield, hoping to escape a Jason-esque killer, while Conley’s variant cover shows Rick injecting Morty with a serum that’s turning him into a gigantic werewolf (both below.)

Rick Flips the Tradition of Spooky Tales with a “Terrifying” Plan Targeting Morty
2024 has been an amazing time to be a fan ofRick and Morty, with the epic ‘Finals Week’ story stretching across the year, beginning withSheRick Holmes and Mortson #1(Daniel Kibblesmith & Priscilla Tramontano) in February and concluding withOld Man Morty #1(Alex Firer & Fred Stresing) in October. Made up of standalone adventures, the specials also tell the story of the most stressful week in Morty’s life, as his grandpa interrupts every day of his Finals. Oni Press has also publishedRick and Morty Super Spring Break Special #1 and theRick and Morty: Kingdom Ballsminiseries, making theRick or Treat Halloween Specialthe cherry on the top for fans of the Smith family.
While Rick and Morty is a sci-fi comedy, it’s always had a connection to horror, from the tribute to H. P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu in the opening credits (revealed in the comics to be Morty’s baby) to homages ofA Nightmare on Elm Street,Needful Things,The Purgeand more. However, this time the spooky fun will seemingly see Rick targeting Morty for unknown but doubtlessly self-serving reasons.
