“Sean is about 30 pages into drawing our next book,” Brubaker writes, “which is a return to CRIMINAL but in the OGN hardback format.” Brubaker also shares pencils from Sean Phillips, which hints that thestory will focus on Jacob Kurtz, the cartoonist protagonist ofCriminal: Bad Night.

All the stories are interconnected in some way, taking place in different time periods as they follow the sagas of entire families operating in the criminal underworld.

Brubaker & Phillips Are Working On Their FirstCriminalStory Since 2019

While Brubaker and Phillips have gone on to create several memorable comics in the years since, they always return periodically to the world ofCriminal. The last time the duo put out a newCriminalcomic was in 2019, whenthe monumental “Cruel Summer” storylinedrew to a close.Interestingly enough, this newCriminalvolume will be the first released since Brubaker and Phillips moved away from monthly comics and into original graphic novels, so it will be intriguing to see what the pair come up with “in a book that will be quite long,” according to Brubaker.

The announcement is exciting, but fans should temper their expectations, asthe newCriminalHC won’t be out until “sometime in the first half of next year,”according to Brubaker. Brubaker and Phillips fans won’t have to wait too long to read their next project, asHouses of the Unholyis due out on August 14 of this year. With a newCriminalcomic coming out just in time for the upcoming TV show,Ed BrubakerandSean Phillipsfans have a lot to look forward to in the coming years.
