Square Enix announced this week that the release dates for two of its highly anticipated titles for 2020,Final Fantasy VII Remake,andMarvel’s Avengers, will be pushed back.

According to the publisher,Final Fantasy VIIRemake, which was slated to launch on March 3 exclusively for the PlayStation 4, willnow launch on April 10. That’s the same month as two other high-profile 2020 games, Capcom’sResident Evil 3remake and the upcoming action RPGCyberpunk 2077developed by CD Projekt Red.

“We are making this tough decision in order to give ourselves a few extra weeks to apply final polish to the game and to deliver you with the best possible experience,”Final Fantasy VII Remakeproducer Yoshinori Kitase said. “I, on behalf of the whole team, want to apologize to everyone, as I know this means waiting for the game just a little bit longer. Thank you for your patience and continued support.”

Initially announced at E3 2015 during the PlayStation press conference, FinalFantasy VIIRemakewill serve as a full remake of the original PlayStation game. While the remake will contain the original story told over 20 years ago, the upcoming title will make a few minor tweaks to the plot. The remake will abandon the Active Battle System found of the original in favor of more action-oriented gameplay similar that found inFinal Fantasy XVand the Kingdom Hearts series.

The upcomingAvengersgame, which was slated to launch on May 15, had itsrelease date pushed back to September 4.

“We will spend this additional development time focusing on fine-tuning and polishing the game to the high standards our fans expect and deserve.” Crystal Dynamics’ studio heads Scot Amos and Ron Rosenberg said in a press release.

Following a two-year wait, Square Enix officially unveiledMarvel’sAvengersto the public, withTomb Raiderdeveloper Crystal Dynamics taking over development duties. Set during a period of triumph for the Avengers, the team’s roster in the upcoming title consists of Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Black Widow, and Thor; other superheroes, including Ms. Marvel, are set to appear as well.

The game will includea single-player campaign, which consists of Hero missions, as well as co-op and Warzone-type missions as well. The game will be released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows PC, and Google Stadia.
