Vi’s New Costume Holds Major Implications For Arcane Season 2

The reveal that Vi will be joining up with both Caitlyn and the Enforcers inArcaneseason 2is sure to come as somewhat of a surprising decision considering where season 1 left the duo. Vi largely turned away from Caitlyn and the more rule-driven council when they refused to put a stop to Silco’s Shimmer factories, which in turn led to not only the deaths of more people, but also the two being kidnapped by Jinx alongside Silco. Rather than taking the choice between Jinx and Caitlyn when presented with a gun by the former, Vi sparked a traumatic episode in her sister that resulted in Silco’s death and Jinx’s reaffirmation of embracing her new identity.

GivenArcaneseason 1’s ending was also quite the cliffhangerafter Jinx shot a rocket at the Piltover council just as they were approving Zaun’s independence, Vi’s joining of the Enforcers could have a few different motivations for it. One of the more likely would be the desire to lead the charge to capture her sister, working to ensure that she is not killed in the hopes of saving her. While Jinx may seem too far gone to those around Vi, the show has frequently highlighted the importance of their familial bond, and with the former now without her father figure, her sister may be just enough to bring her back from the brink.

Arcane Season 2 Wishlist: 10 Things We Want To See Next

Arcane season 2 needs to strike a balance between introducing new elements pulled from League of Legends and building on its own great story.

The other potential explanation for why Vi joins the Enforcers inArcaneseason 2 could be one of a diplomatic effort between the Piltover council and Zaun to prevent an intra-city war after Jinx’s attack. Though the civilians of the latter city may not have had a hand in the attack, any kind of retaliation from Piltover would lead to defensive measures from Zaun, and having someone like Vi, who knows the truth of the situation, could help temper some of the flares to come from it all. Additionally, with season 1 slowly building theromantic bond between Vi and Caitlyn, the two working together on a team could see this dynamic grow immensely.
