7Wolf Man

Releasing on January 17th

TheDark Universehas been a difficult project for Universal. Hoping to reap the recognition of their most famous classic monster movie names, including Frankenstien’s monster, Dracula, and the Wolf Man, Universal has made several passes at bringing together what they refer to as the Dark Universe. Their first efforts at building the cinematic franchise came and went with 2014’sDracula Untold, which ended in a painfully obvious attempt to set up future films. 2017’sThe Mummywas a similar disappointment, failing to establish the Dark Universeas a franchise.

Recently, Leigh Whannell’sThe Invisible Man,released in 2020, resulted in one of the best re-vamps of a classic Universal monster property, focusing on simply telling a great chilling horror tale rather than hastily setting up sequels with MCU-style post-credits scenes. At first, it seemed as though Universal was content to let sleeping dogs lie with the Dark Universe concept, but thanks to Blumhouse Productions, they may finally be ready to take a third swing at the idea.

EnterWolf Man, a modern adaptation of the 1941 classic creature feature,The Wolf Man.Bringing back Whannell to tackle an engaging contemporary retelling of an iconic horror tale, not much plot details are known aboutWolf Manbeyond the bare bones werewolf concept. The film will star indie actorChristopher Abbot as Lawrence “Larry” Talbot, the original werewolf character from the 1941 film. WhetherWolf Manwill finally attempt to tieThe Invisible Manto a successful version of the Dark Universe or simply be content to effectively remix another classic title remains to be seen.

6The Woman In The Yard

Releasing on March 28th

One of Blumhouse Productions' two completely original concepts to be eying a 2025 release date, little is known aboutThe Woman in the Yard. With no details on the plot to speak of, industry buzz around the film has been scarce, with Blumhouse playing their cards close to the chest with the title. It’s worth mentioning that a 1999 thriller book of the same name exists, revolving around the investigation of a black woman’s murder in 1950s North Carolina, but so far, the upcoming film has not claimed to be an adaptation.

What few details can be gleaned about the upcoming film revolve around the cast and crew. Jaume Collet-Serra is slated to direct, having some horror experience thanks to films likeHouse of WaxandOrphanearly on in his career, but is better known for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson star vehiclesJungle CruiseandBlack Adam.Actors Okwui Okpokwasili, Danielle Deadwyler, and Russell Hornsby are also confirmed for the cast ofThe Woman in the Yard, though all three are more known for TV and theater acting rather than horror films.

5Drop

Releasing on April 11th

The second original release for Blumhouse Productions in 2025, details are similarly scarce forDropas they are forThe Woman in the Yard. While the film’s true logline remains a complete mystery,Dropis said to be a fast-paced thriller. If Blumhouse Production’s track record is anything to go off of,Dropwill at the very least have heavy shades of horror, if not being an outright horror-thriller, but the chances of a more dramatic story aren’t to be completely disregarded. Once again, the most relevant details currently available aboutDropsurround the talent it has managed to acquire.

Dropwill be directed by Blumhouse horror veteran Christopher Landon, a filmmaker whose movie catalog includes modern horror-comedy classics likeHappy Death Day,Freaky, andScouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse.Landon also worked on the majority oftheParanormal Activityfilmsas a screenwriter.Dropwill also be hosting a cast of working actors of middling fame, such as Meghann Fahy from HBO darlingThe White Lotus, with one glaring exception – One young Jacob Robinson, a viral child content creator known for his TikTok witticisms making his feature film debut inDrop.

4M3GAN 2.0

Releasing on June 27th

M3GANwas a commercially and critically successful horror comedy from Blumhouse Productions that leaned into its silly premise to great effect. The film follows a genius toymaker who ends up adopting her niece after the tragic death of her sister, though she struggles to connect with children. After building the android companion M3GAN to help, things quickly go awry when the pint-sized robot quickly starts operating outside the boundaries of its original programming. The titular robot makes a strong argument for a new iconic horror villain, with a surprising amount of personality despite her artificial origins.

Blumhouse seems to have heardM3GAN’s success loud and clear, and is responding in-kind with a sequel poised for release in the summer of 2025. Luckily,M3GAN’s ambiguous ending has some implicationsthat’ll make it easy for the tale of the killer child companion to continue, even ifM3GAN 2.0is light on plot details at the time of writing. Director Gerard Johnstone, also known for the quietly-successful chillerHousebound, is rumored to return. Name-dropped by Jason Blum personally,M3GAN 2.0might be Blumhouse’s most anticipated 2025 project.

Insidious 6

Insidious 6 is the sixth installment in the supernatural horror franchise.

Ever since the release of the originalInsidiousin 2010, the resulting franchise has been one of Blumhouse Productions most successful intellectual properties. Spanning five films, theInsidiousmovieshop back and forth in time as they explore the haunting depths of spiritual possession and demonic incursions, made whole via the loose connective tissue of returning characters, events, and entities. While the series might not always be the most critically successful horror franchise, it’s an undeniable pop culture powerhouse for Blumhouse, consistently raking in big box office takes.

In 2025,the series is set to continue its reign of terror with an untitled sixth installment. WIththe upcomingThread: An Insidious Talepossibly being released ahead ofInsidious 6,potentially upsetting the status quo of the universe, it’s hard to say where the story forInsidious 6will go.Insidious: The Red Doorreunited much of the original film’s cast, meaning that the sixth entry in the franchise is likely to continue the core story of the Rainier family, still attempting to overcome their spiritual trauma from the haunting events of the past.

Black Phone 2

Cast

Black Phone 2: In this sequel, Finn navigates the aftermath of his captivity at 17, while his sister experiences nightmarish calls from the black phone. She envisions three boys being pursued at Alpine Lake, a winter camp, in a series of haunting episodes that blur the lines between reality and terror.

A smashing success in the perilous movie market still reeling from the effects of the pandemic,The Black Phonewas a low-budget film released by Blumhouse in 2021.Adapted from a short story by Joe King, the pen name of Stephen King’s son, the film follows the plight of a young boy named Finney who is abducted by the nauseating serial killer known as The Grabber, using the titular black phone to communicate with the ghosts of his past victims and plan his escape. One of Blumhouse’s most profitable investments, it’s no wonderThe Black Phoneis getting a sequel.

How exactly the story of Finney and The Grabber can continue is a tougher puzzle to decipher. The story ofThe Black Phoneis quite self-contained, though a prequel story featuring Finney’s cousin, Gwen, appeared in the horror anthologyV/H/S/85under the titleDreamkill. It’s possible that a sequel will further explore the history of Finney’s hereditary psychic abilities, but there’s an equal chance the film will age the protagonist up in a similar vein as Mike Flanagan’sDoctor Sleep.

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 continues the suspenseful horror saga with Mike Schmidt, a former security guard, returning to fend off animatronic nightmares at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. As new challenges arise, survival becomes precarious in this chilling sequel, expected to expand the franchise’s eerie narrative and thrill its audience.

Closing out Blumhouse Productions' 2025 lineup is none other than the horror phenomenonFive Nights at Freddy’s 2.The first film was based on the hit indie horror video game of the same name, thoughFive Nights at Freddy’stook some significant libertieswith the source material’s labyrinthine lore. The film starsJosh Hutcherson as Mike, a down-on-his luck security guard haunted by guilt after his kid brother is abducted on his watch. Mike takes a new job at a security guard at a mysterious abandoned pizzeria infested with killer animatronics.

Five Nights at Freddy’swasn’t well-received by critics, but die-hard fans of the series appreciated the adaptation for what it was. With 9 video games in the series to pull inspiration from,Five Nights at Freddy’s 2will have no issues with generating story ideas, as both Matthew Lillard’s William Afton and Jim Henson’s Creature Shop are slated to return to color the follow-up film’s murderous cast of animatronics. Appearing to loom over the holiday release schedule,Five Nights at Freddy’s 2just might be Blumhouse’s most successfulhorror filmof 2025.
