Theending ofBig Mouthseason 7sees the Bridgeton Middle School kids move up to high school, but it’s currently unknown how old they’ll be when the show finishes or what time span the final season will cover.
Now that theBig Mouthseason 8 release window is confirmed, the show has only a certain number of episodes to wrap up some long-running storylines. The last installment will see a majority of theBig Mouthcastreturn for its ending, but several plot details and character development still need wrapping up. With heavy themes of sexuality, identity, love triangles, and the monsters of puberty, plenty ofBig Mouthstories are still deserving of a satisfying conclusion.

Why Big Mouth Season 8 Is The Last Season
The Netflix adult animated comedy series Big Mouth is coming to an end following season 8. Read on for why the streaming service canceled the show.
8The Mystery Of The Masked Principal
The Masked Principal first appears in season 4 as a replacement for Principal Barron, who retires to Clearwater, Florida, to live with her sister. The gag parodyingThe Masked Singerkeeps theBig Mouthcharacters guessing, but as of season 7, their identity has yet to be revealed. In theBig Mouthseason 4 finale, “What Are You Gonna Do?” the Masked Principal breaks the fourth wall to tell audiences that they are director Roman Polanski, although it’s extremely unlikely to be true, considering Polanski’s past controversies.
Several otherMasked Principal theories inBig Mouthstill need confirmation, especially the ones formed by its characters. Matthew’s best guess is pop star Paula Abdul, whereas Samira suggests that the Masked Principal is Cathy Lee Gifford. Other possible candidates include Katherine Heigl, Suge Knight, and Richard Lewis. However, the mask is never removed from the Principal’s head, so their true identity is still a mystery. Even though the kids leave Bridgeton Middle, it’s still important thatBig Mouthresolves this storyline, especially one that is so prominent through the later seasons of the show.

7Jessi Defining Her Sexuality (Or Explicitly Stating She Isn’t)
Jessi’s Attraction To Women Is Teased Throughout Big Mouth
Jessi’s sexuality is a conversation that crops up frequently throughoutBig Mouth. At one point, she develops feelings for her best friend Ali, but her love bug always implies that it’s a platonic love more than anything else. However,in season 7, there are more hints of Jessi being anything other than straight.Jessi becomes overly fond of her stepmother, Caitlin, and Nick’s sister, Leah, which causes her some awkward moments. While the discussion of Jessi’s sexuality is repeatedly touched upon, it is never defined.
However, Jessi doesn’t necessarily require a label. There are a few characters who come out inBig Mouth, such as Matthew and Elijah, but Jessi doesn’t need to decide whether she is one thing or another. Many people in real life have a broad range of sexual partners without stating whether they have a specific identity, but if this is the case for Jessi, the show needs to acknowledge this. Jessi is still a brilliant and endearing character regardless, but the constant teases throughoutBig Mouthdeserve a payoff.

6The Lola, Matthew, And Jay Love Triangle
Big Mouth’s Biggest Romantic Conflict Needs A Conclusion
The love triangle between Lola, Jay, and Matthew inBig Mouthoften seems to be over, only to crop up again and again. After Jay comes out as bisexual, he has relationships with both Lola and Jay.Both of Jay’s partners have their positives and negatives, and there isn’t one that overpowers the otherin terms of who is better for him. By the end of season 7, Jay isn’t dating anyone, but some moments suggest he isn’t over either of them. For example,Jay and Lola’s relationship inBig Mouthseems to be over when she starts dating Kurt.
Jay does refer to Matthew as his “ex-husband”
Initially, it appears that Lola’s presence in his home frustrates Jay, but it’s clear that his ex in a relationship with his sibling is too difficult for him. In season 7, Jay and Matthew’s interactions are rather minimal, which is very suspicious, considering how deep their romance is before their break up. However, Jay does refer to Matthew as his “ex-husband” at one point, which implies that he isn’t content with their split. WithBig Mouthending, this love triangle is a storyline that deserves a good resolution, with Jay either choosing one or the other, or even being alone.
5Montel’s Decision To Be A Shame Wizard
Big Mouth Season 8 Will Also Wrap Up Storylines From Human Resources
InBig Mouthseason 6, Connie and Maury’s child, Montel, is born.Hormone Monsters inBig Mouthgrow rapidly, so within a matter of episodes, Montel is approaching their teenage years. Inthe canceledBig MouthspinoffHuman Resources,Montel decides they want to be a Shame Wizard rather than a Hormone Monster, which their parents eventually accept. However, Montel is completely absent fromBig Mouthseason 7, so there are still a lot of uncovered details that the show needs to address.
Montel’s decision to become a Shame Wizard is a groundbreaking moment in theBig Mouthuniverse. It shares parallels with other storylines that focus on transgender characters, like Natalie, for example. Although Connie and Maury are stunned by Montel’s announcement at first, they embrace their child’s wishes and let Montel be who they want to be,butBig Mouthhasn’t delved into their life as a Shame Wizard yet.Big Mouthseason 8 will wrap up stories about its own characters andthe monsters inHuman Resources, and hopefully, Montel will be one of them.
4The Fate Of Nick Starr
Nick Is Going Down A Path To Become His Future Alter-Ego
Depending on how much timeBig Mouthseason 8 covers, one storyline that is worth expanding and concluding is that of Nick’s famous alter-ego, Nick Starr.Nick Starr appears frequently inBig Mouthwhen Nick is anxiousand starts dwelling on a possible future that is full of success but lacking in company and love.Big Mouth’s Nick Starris the host of the fictional “Countdown To Money With Nick Starr,” a psychotic dystopian game show that awards its contestants with tokens to use the bathroom, but the success quickly goes to his head, and Starr becomes an egotistical nightmare.
Details of Starr alter throughout the show, primarily as they’re imaginary thoughts of Nick’s, but it seems pretty certain that his future is set in stone. If he does become Starr,Big Mouthseason 8 needs to give the character serious development to further justify Nick’s change in personality. Regardless of whether Nick succumbs to his fate as the selfish TV show host or not, the final installment of the show must delve into his psyche and either push him in another direction or let him embrace his flaws and acknowledge he’s more than Nick Starr.
3Coach Steve’s Affair With Jay’s Mom
Steve & Jenna Bilzerian’s Relationship Has A Potential Future
In the season 2 episode “Steve the Virgin,” Coach Steve sparks up an affair with Jay’s Mom, Jenna, and loses his virginity to her. Although one ofBig Mouth’s best relationshipsgoes on brief hiatuses when Guy Bilzerian returns home, Steve and Jenna’s affair continues at points throughout the show.Steve loves being Jay’s “Gary,” a term he uses to refer to a secret stepfather,as well as having sex regularly. However, it’ll be interesting to see whether Steve and Jenna have any sort of future together.
Guy Bilzerian is a famous womanizer who cheats on his wife constantly, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be furious if he ever discovers her being unfaithful. Jenna briefly shows Jay a little black book that is full of information that can destroy Jay, so perhaps this will be useful in future episodes. She’s also generally unconscious inBig Mouthand only wakes up for short periods, but when Jenna’s with Steve, she is a lot more present and happy. While it’s unlikely that the two will end up together, if anyone deserves a happy ending, it’s Coach Steve.
Big Mouth: The 10 Saddest Things About Coach Steve
Coach Steve is always in a happy mood on Big Mouth, but that’s mainly due to his cluelessness about safety, sexuality, hygiene, and life in general.
2Jay’s Mom’s Secret Daughter
Jay Always Hopes For A Sibling Who Will Love Him
Another unresolved storyline inBig Mouththat focuses on Jenna Bilzerian is her secret daughter. In the season 3 premiere episode, “Girls Are Angry Too,” Jenna mentions having a secret daughter during a meeting about Bridgeton Middle’s dress code. It’s unclear as to whether Jay and his mysterious sister share two biological parents or oneor whether she is older or younger than him. SomeBig Mouthseason 8 theoriessuggest that Lola is a Bilzerian, which makes sense as Guy fathers many children, but as she’s only six months older than Jay, it seems unlikely.
There’s a chance that Jenna’s secret daughter may not be real at all
None of theBig Mouthcharacters mention being adopted, but someone new may arrive that ticks this box. There’s a chance that Jenna’s secret daughter may not be real at all. Jenna is permanently drunk and is often disconnected from reality, so perhaps this is all a delusion. While it’s unlikely, but not impossible, Jenna may become pregnant by Steve,so she gives the baby up without anyone noticing. The deep desire for a strong sibling bond is one of thesaddest things about Jay inBig Mouth,so he deserves to know more about his unknown sister.
1Devon’s Absence
Big Mouth Voice Actor Jak Knight Passed Away In 2022
Big Mouth’s Devon is a prominent character throughout the show, whose main storylines include his on-again-off-again relationship with Devin and his budding friendship with Missy. Devon is relatively absent inBig Mouthseason 7, only appearing in the background for a couple of brief moments and never speaking. Behind the scenes,Devon’s absence is because of the death of his voice actor, Jak Knight, and the character is yet to be recast. It’s almost certain that Devon will not get a new voice, but that doesn’t mean thatBig Mouthcan’t give him a satisfying ending.
There is a running joke throughoutBig MouththatDevon is secretly an old man.He and other characters often reference this, and there are small details that feed into this narrative, such as the pharmacist telling Jessi about Devon’s medication in the season 2 episode “The Shame Wizard.” If there is any good way forBig Mouthto either kill Devon or give him a good conclusion, it makes sense for the show to lead with this recurring gag.
